Artist's statement
I remember when I was little and I got my pink Barbie camera, and the thrill when I would go to get the film developed and see all the pictures I took, which, at the time, were mostly pictures of people from the shoulders down. As I grew older, I found many other hobbies that had the same capability to occupy my artistic side. I drew and I painted and I wrote. I discovered music and invested my heart into it. But photography was always there to go back to when I gave up on all the other little things to occupy me. I learned that actually getting someone's head in the picture is helpful, I learned that angles can change the image completely and there's much more to photography than pressing one button. That's why I got into photography and its classes in high school, to discover more about that forgotten hobby of mine. It peaks my interests and is something I can look forward to throughout my school day, whether it's something I want to do forever or simply experiment with. And although I may not pursue it as a career, I can always have it there for me to fall back on when my creative side is starving for something to invest in.
